The Mill is a nice cottage. Great location, close to a quaint town with some lovely places to eat. Hosts are pleasant but didn’t check how everything was after checking in. If you’re not a fan of spiders, this is not somewhere you’d like to stay. Unfortunately the sheer amount of spiders (over 150 in the cottage) ruined my stay here. Mouse traps in the cupboard are not a good sign. High level cleaning needs attention- so many webs and spiders. Biggest one was on the window frame directly above the bed! This was just too much for me. Didn’t sleep well at all.
The bottle of Prosecco and a baked loaf with some jam were a nice touch. Spacious cottage. Smell of damp is noticeable and quite strong upon entering cottage. Red squirrels is what I went to see but sadly the greys have killed off most of the red squirrels by the cottage. However you can see them in the woodland grounds of Shap Wells hotel which is not too far away by car. Midges are a pain but they’re always present where there is water. There’s a lovely DVD of red squirrels in the cottage which is a good watch.

I stayed there from 01/04/2024 to 08/04/2024 in Ford Cottage. The location is idyllic, and the waterfall was in full flow, which was spectacular. The hosts were helpful and pleasant enough, and the cottage is warm and practical; it provides the basics for a self-catering style family holiday. On a point of note, Ford Cottage does require an update in both decor, quality of some furnishings and building maintenance as the onset of mould in the bedroom and bathroom is quite evident and disappointing given the price point. I apreciate the building is old and characterful but this was only been negated during my visit by a dehumidifier which does make me suspect the hosts are well aware of this issue given the provision of this; resulting in the smell of damp in the bedroom that was ever present, particularly on a wet day which was at least for 5 days out of the 7 I was there. Be aware that should the Ford become impassable due to rainfall, the alternative access route is via a bumpy and muddy farm track, which won't be particularly suitable for all cars during the winter months. Unluckily, I didn't see any red squirrels over my stay, which the hosts disclosed they were fearful of a recent squirrel pox outbreak, to which the local postman also verified, but other wildlife was plentiful in the area for those interested and there are alternate locations near by to potentially see Red Squirrels given by the hosts. I would like to thank the hosts for their time and attention during my stay.

We had a fantastic stay here! Beautiful location, next to a waterfall.. Very cosy converted old mill with all the modern features. Great views - we even saw a red squirrel. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Freebies like homemade bread and jam a nice touch as well!

Fantastic tranquil location. You need proper footwear for the walk. Muddy and ford very slippery. Great wildlife. Cafe closed for good a while back. Real shame. Beautiful wildlife oh so peaceful.

Did not stay at the cottages just visited the falls as was passing. It was a rainy day but the falls were nice, only parking for two cars and you would be hard pushed to spend more than a few minutes there. Worth a look if you are passing.

What an absolutly beautiful place! Few downsides are it's all private if you wanted to get close and there is no where to park so you'll have to walk to get there and it's quite out of the way unless you're staying close by in the little village... the people I encounter of the time I went where very rude but if you are there for the waterfall it's absolutly stunning and well worth it!
